A dune buggy ride is one of the most exciting ways to explore the Abu Dhabi desert, because you drive a powerful off-road vehicle built for sand. The main choice is simple: a 2-seater for a couple or two friends, or a 4-seater for a family or small group.
The Dune Buggy Abu Dhabi ride uses a Polaris buggy and lasts 30 minutes. A 2-seater buggy costs AED 650 per buggy, and a 4-seater buggy costs AED 1000 per buggy. Prices are per buggy, not per person, so a 4-seater can be good value when shared by a group.
2-seater vs 4-seater
Choose a 2-seater if you are travelling as a couple, or if two adults want the most direct driving experience. The buggy feels lighter and more responsive, and both riders get a clear view of the dunes. Choose a 4-seater if you are a family or a group of three or four, or if you want children to ride along safely with adults. The 4-seater is also the better choice if you want to share the cost across more people.
In both cases, the price is for the buggy, not for each rider. Check your group size before booking, so you choose the right vehicle and avoid needing a second buggy at the last minute.
A Single buggy is also available for solo drivers, at AED 450 per buggy for the 30-minute ride.
What to expect on a 30-minute ride
Expect a guided ride on approved desert routes, with safety gears provided. You will get a safety briefing before you start, and you should follow the guide’s route and instructions at all times. Start slowly, get used to the steering and braking on sand, and build speed only when you feel comfortable. The 30-minute ride is long enough to enjoy the dunes, take in the views, and feel the power of the buggy without becoming tired.
The buggy package also includes a short camel ride, a desert photography stop, and drinking water. That makes it a good half-day experience on its own, or an add-on to a wider desert trip.
Longer rides and pickup
One-hour and two-hour dune buggy rides are available on request. 1 hour: Single AED 900, 2-seater AED 1300, 4-seater AED 2000. 2 hours: Single AED 1800, 2-seater AED 2600, 4-seater AED 4000. Pickup is also flexible: an optional private car pickup and drop-off is available for AED 400 extra for up to 6 persons. That is useful if you want a private transfer to and from the desert, rather than joining a shared pickup.
What to wear and bring
Wear comfortable clothes, secure footwear, sunglasses and sunscreen. Closed shoes are best for driving, and a hat and a small bag for water and a phone are useful. Use the safety gear provided, keep loose items secured, and listen to the guide throughout the ride.
